Lee Ahye, Hackett advance to 100 m semifinals

T&T Olympic athlete Michelle Lee Ahye sped into the Women's 100 metre semifinals on Friday with a time of 11 seconds, the second fastest time overall.

She is joined in the semifinal round by T&T Olympic athlete Semoy Hackett, who placed third in her heat with 11.35 seconds but also advanced.

Lee Ahye's time was beaten only by Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The three women were the only Caribbean athletes to advance in the Women's 100 metres heat.

The other T&T athlethe Kelly-Ann Baptiste placed fourth in her heat, beaten by Jamaica's Elaine Thompson and Brazil's Rosangela Santos, who placed first and second respectively.

The semifinals of the event begins Saturday at 8 PM.

Earlier tonight, T&T athlete Cleopatra Borel placed seventh in the Women's Shot Put event after advancing to the Olympic final for the first time.

Borel, who announced that Rio 2016 would be her final Olympic games said she had accomplished what she set out to do.

In an interview following, Borel's event, the athlete said she hoped to inspire athletes in T&T and the Caribbean to participate and excel in the sport.
