Lendore improves on World leading timeClayton Clarke :: Newsday :: 05.02.2014OLYMPIC 4x400m relay bronze medallist Deon Lendore improved on his world leading time in the men’s 400m to 45.47 seconds when he won the event at the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas, USA on Saturday. The Queen’s Royal College graduate chopped 0.27 seconds off his previous world lead of 45.74 seconds which was set in January. Lendore was later named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week for his efforts. The Arima resident copped his third National Athlete of the Week honour after receiving the award twice in 2013. The 21-year-old is one of four T&T quarter milers in the top 30 in the world. Lendore’s Texas A&M schoolmate Carlyle Roudette is at 13th with 46.48 while double Olympic bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon lies at 23rd with his first 400m clocking of the season of 46.67. Fellow Olympic mile relay bronze medallist Jarrin Solomon sits at 25th with 46.70. The four local runners are all faster than the World Indoor Championships qualifying mark of 46.80. The World Indoors are scheduled for Sopot, Poland, from March 7-9. Gordon is also at 11th in the men’s 200m with his 20.95 victory in New York in January. Michelle-Lee Ahye also improved to second in the women’s 60m event following her 7.15 clocking in finishing second in Howie Ryan Invitational Houston, Texas on Saturday. Ahye is behind double World Outdoor Championships silver medallist Murielle Ahoure (Ivory Coast) who won ahead of Ahye in 7.03 improving her world lead from 7.05. Ahye set a new personal best twice in Houston clocking 7.18 in the semi-finals. The 2011 Pan American Junior 100m gold medallist entered the meet with a Pb of 7.22 which earned her 5th spot on the previous IAAF World performance list. Another T&T sprinter Geronne Black is at 32nd on the world list (7.31). Ahye and Black are quicker than the World Indoor standard of 7.32). Triple Olympic medallist Richard Thompson is at 72nd in the men’s 60m with his season opening time of 6.69 which he clocked in finishing fifth in Houston, Texas on Saturday. Thompson was short of the World Indoor qualifying time of 6.65. Annie Alexander is at 16th in the women’s shot put with 17.31 missing the World Indoor barrier of 17.80 while Janiel Bellille is 30th quickest in the women’s 400m (53.58) and was shy of 53.15 World Indoor standard. Hurdlers Wayne Davis 11 and Mikel Thomas are in the top 40th in the 60m hurdles. Davis is at 37th with 7.75 and Thomas 43rd (7.77). The World Indoor 60m hurdles standard is 7.74.
