Jeminise Parris in World Youth semis

Trinidad and Tobago’s Jeminise Parris is among the 24 athletes who will compete in today’s women’s 100 metres hurdles semis, at the World Youth (Under-18) Track and Field Championships, in Donetsk, Ukraine.

In the opening round, yesterday, Parris finished fifth in heat three in 14.19 seconds to advance as a “fastest loser”. Of the 24 qualifiers, the T&T athlete was 19th fastest.

At ten a.m. (T&T time), Parris will face the starter in the first of three semi-final heats. She will run in lane two.

Andwuelle Wright produced a 6.99 metres leap to finish eighth in Group A and 21st overall in the men’s long jump qualifying competition. The top 12 jumpers qualified for today’s final.

Kenejah Williams threw the five-kilogramme iron ball 16.80m in the men’s shot put qualifying event. The effort earned him 14th spot in Group B and 29th spot overall. Only the top 12 progressed to yesterday’s final.

Kayelle Clarke bowed out in the opening round of the women’s 100m dash. The T&T sprinter finished third in heat one and 37th overall in 12.40 seconds.

T&T throwers, Chelsea James and Portious Warren will be in action today in the women’s shot put qualifying competition, which starts at 2.15 a.m. (T&T time).

And at 4.01 a.m., Aaron Lewis will compete in heat four in the opening round of the men’s 110m hurdles. The T&T hurdler has been drawn in lane one.
